Early Childhood Speaker Series - Sixth Lecture

On Wednesday, November 4, 2015, the UNB Faculty of Education, the UNB Early Childhood Centre and the Margaret and Wallace McCain Family Foundation Inc. is proud to present the sixth and final public presentation as part of the Early Childhood Speaker Series.

He holds an M.Sc. in mathematics and a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley. He has published widely in scholarly books and journals in Canada and abroad, mainly in the areas of economic fluctuations, growth, employment, and public policy. He has been a president of the French Canadian Economics Association (SCSE), and of the Canadian Economics Association (CEA).

He has received many awards and distinctions, including the Prize of the French Canadian Association for the Advancement of Science (ACFAS), the Gold Medal of the Governor General of Canada, and the Douglas Purvis Memorial Prize, as the author of the best recent book or article published on Canadian economic policy.

In 1995, he was cited as the most distinguished Quebec economist of the decade by membership vote of the Quebec Association of Professional Economists (ASDEQ). Since 1999, he has been an economic columnist with the French-language magazine L'actualité.

In 2004 and 2008, he received the Gold Medal of the National Magazine Awards Foundation, which is awarded annually to the author of the best regular column in a Canadian magazine.

 

And also Craig Alexander who is Vice President for economic analysis C.D. Howe Institute Monetary Policy Council. 

Craig was also the Senior Vice President and Chief Economist for TD Bank Group. In that role, he managed a large team of economists that supported all of the divisions and clients of TD, the second largest bank in Canada and the eighth largest bank in the United States.

Mr. Alexander has 15 years of experience in the private sector as an economic and financial forecaster. He is also a regular commentator on public policy. He speaks at more than 100 events per year on economic and financial developments, and writes research on a wide array of subject areas.

Prior to joining private sector, he spent four years as an economist at Statistics Canada.

In addition to his role at TD, Mr. Alexander is a strong advocate for the cause of literacy and is a champion of the charitable sector. He also serves on the Board of Directors for several non-profit groups. He is a Trustee of two pension plans and is on the editorial board for the quarterly journal Canadian Public Policy.

A former two-term President of the Canadian Association for Business Economics, he holds a graduate degree in economics from the University of Toronto
