Atlantic Chamber of Commerce Professional Development Event - Why Chambers should care about the evolving early learning and care landscape

September 17, 2024 | Presentation to Atlantic Chamber of Commerce

Cathy BennettOn September 17th, 2024 the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce hosted a professional learning event for their members featuring Cathy Bennett as presenter. Cathy is a business leader and former finance Minister of Newfoundland and Labrador, with over three decades of impactful contributions to both the public and private sectors as an entrepreneur and corporate board member. She is also deeply committed to community, with a particular passion for early childhood education, recognizing its critical role in optimizing developmental outcomes for children as well as economic and social development for communities.

Early child education and care has become increasingly topical in recent years, fueled by the Canada Wide Early Learning and Child Care agreements and the resulting demand for space. Economists and business leaders have recognized the critical importance of childcare, not just to secure a productive workforce, but to economic growth and development. Business leaders are now well embroiled in the narrative around childcare and increasingly Chambers of Commerce are being drawn into conversations.

Cathy Bennett has been immersed in these conversations for quite some time, provincially as well as nationally in her work with The Prosperity Project. In her presentation to Chamber members Cathy discussed why this has become so topical and why Chambers need to be attuned to the issues, presenting dominant themes on how it impacts workers, employers, communities and economies. Discussion centered around the role of Chambers in supporting their members and how best to respond to challenges.
